NILSON DESIGNS

Nilson

Artist
Today, Nilson de Assis is an up and coming designer of beautiful artisan jewelry, but he is no stranger to hardship. Born in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, the fashion capital of South America, Nilson grew up in Rio’s most dangerous slum. At the age of 15, he dropped out of school and went to work in a handbag fabrication workshop. He later apprenticed with an artisan who worked in brass, and it was here he first discovered his
creative talents.

Determined to give his daughter opportunities he didn’t have, every night after work, Nilson began creating exquisite jewelry and handbags using leftover materials from the workshop. Before long, his designs were selling in a well known fair in Ipanema, and today, his collectors span the globe.

Design
Artisan craftsmanship and superb detail are the hallmark of each Nilson creation. Individually hand crafted in
Brazil, Nilson’s organic designs are exquisite and unique. Nilson creates his jewelry exclusively for Alegria, a
non-profit company created to give gifted artisans like himself a productive avenue to better their lives and those of their families and communities.

Gemstones
Each Nilson design sparkles with beautiful, raw semi-precious gemstones. Known as the gemstone capital of the world, Brazil is a virtual treasure trove for semi-precious stones including amethyst, aquamarine, citrine,
emerald, tourmaline, topaz and opal.

Care
Like the carioca spirit of the Brazilian people, Nilson’s designs are truly carefree. His jewelry never tarnishes and its luster lasts a lifetime. To clean, simply buff gently with a soft, dry cloth.

Finger Lakes Gallery & Frame is proud to be the exclusive Upstate NY representative for Nilson.

PETER UNGER

Florida native Peter Unger is a jewelry designer working in bronze and copper. We first met Peter at the annual Waterfront Arts Festival on Canandaigua Lake. Immediately recognizable, his freeform creations incorporate floral elements and semi-precious stones in a style that is at once sinuous and simple. His work is a favorite of collectors across the United States. The gallery is the exclusive representative of Peter’s work in NY.
